Board Member - Randy Horton
Randy Horton is currently a Detective Captain with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. He supervises the Forensic Services Division as well as the Property & Evidence Unit.
Horton began his law enforcement career with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 when he began working as a Sworn Reserve Deputy. He continued in this capacity until 2003 when he became a full time Deputy. In 2006 he was promoted to an Investigators position and assigned to the Crime Scene Investigations Unit. In 2010 he was promoted to Corporal within the CSI Unit. In 2013 he departed the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and accepted a position with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office as a Detective Sergeant supervising their CSI Unit.
Randy holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Horton has also completed the Criminal Investigations Certificate Program through the NC Justice Academy where he also serves as a member of the Forensics Working Group, tasked with reviewing and updating the curriculum for the Crime Scene Investigations and Forensics courses.
Randy holds an Advance Law Enforcement Certificate as well as a General Instructor’s Certificate from the NC Sheriff’s Education and Training Standards Commission. Horton is also a court qualified expert witness in the Processing, Analysis and Comparison of both 10 Prints and Latent Prints, as well as a qualified expert in Crime Scene Processing and Reconstruction.
Randy is a current member of the International Association for Identification (IAI), as well as the North Carolina Division of the International Association for Identification (NCIAI) where he currently serves on the Board of Directors. He previously served as the NCIAI President from 2019-2021.
Randy Horton is currently certified by the International Association for Identification as both a Certified Latent Print Examiner (CLPE) and as a Certified Senior Crime Scene Analyst (CSCSA).
